Valera: “Ugh, I’m sorry for snapping at you, but this is a huge life-changing decision and you just dropped it on me out of nowhere. I need some time to process this and really think about it.”
Ryan: “I get that. It was a huge shock to me too and she’s my family so I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. Let’s just put it to one side for now and enjoy our dinner.”
Ryan: “Of course I have. I didn’t just flat out tell them yes, we’ll do it. I told them I had to discuss it with you first and I didn’t promise anything. But Valera, come on, we can’t exactly say no. How could you do that to them?”
Valera: “Do not do that, Ryan! Don’t put this all on me and make me out to be this horrible person. You can’t force me to make a decision like this in a split-second and you definitely can’t make the decision for me!”
Valera: “Sorry, what? Did I just hear you right? Eleanor’s pregnant and wants us to take the baby!? What the hell?”
Ryan: “Look, Ellie’s never been the type that was gonna have kids, it’s just not for her. But it happened and she couldn’t bring herself to get rid of it. She doesn’t want people she doesn’t know to bring the kid up either so she asked us. She’s my sister, Lera.”
Ryan: “Uh, they could be better, I guess. I think we should talk about this after dinner. Tell me about your day at work. Why did they need you to come in at the last minute?”
Valera: “Ah it was nothing, some newbie didn’t know how to do something and I had to fix it. It was no big deal. But tell me, what’s going on with Eleanor and Isaias? If it’s important just tell me now, don’t bother waiting.”
Ryan: “Well, ok… Ellie’s pregnant. And she wants us to take the baby! Isn’t that great?”
