Just spent £430 on car insurance, agh. I’m picking up my first ever, brand new car tomorrow though, so I’m pretty fucking excited about that. Freakin’ out a little bit about just blowing almost half of my bank account though, and then I’ve got rent to pay to my parents tomorrow as well. Ew, being adult sucks. I just wanna play video games and buy cool shit, not have to worry about money ;-;
Anyway, time to finish Life is Strange Episode 4 and cry buckets over fictional characters in a fictional universe because that is my life
2 MINS UNTIL LIFE IS STRANGE EPISODE 4 FINISHES DOWNLOADING, HYYYYYYYYYPE
The Sims 3 series was sleazy with it’s business model and practices consistently nickel and diming the players, specifically with the Sims 3 Store. But how can you call Sims 4 a cash grab or EA/Maxis greedy this time around? The content to price ratio is amazing now with the $10 stuff packs that are half the price as in the past and game packs that are mini expansions with tons of stuff for only $20 (compare that to store worlds for the same price with one new game play object). And they’re constnatly patching in new content and game play in the monthly patches, which is another thing Sims 3 didn’t have, frequent patches.
The store model worked. They obviously made a huge profit from all the sets and worlds they released through it. They could have easily gone that same route with Sims 4, but they didn’t. The content is not released in an overwhelming rate now. Sure, it’s still released monthly and some people will always have difficulties keeping up cost wise, but it’s nowhere near what Sims 3 saw. And they need to keep a steady stream of content going for those that want it. Their practices are nowhere near the slime ball levels of Sims 3, so it pisses me off when people complain about their greed still to this day. Be thankful they’re not as greedy as you assume they are.
tl;dr – EA was slimy in the past, but their business practices have done a 180 this time around and they’re actually more concerned with player’s happiness and less about the money.
It’s like EA has set a precedent for themselves with the other EPs so from now on they all follow that path regardless of what we want, under the guise of giving us what we want. They’re trying to appeal to us by giving us Sims’ “staples” such as parties and magic and aliens, and although they might be fun, in reality that’s only because every other game has had that so there’s both an obvious market and an incentive for people to try TS4 when it’s more like TS/2/3.
In reality what we all want is for them to grow from the previous incarnations and understand what we actually want is for the base game to be fleshed out. Instead of relying on gimmicky expansions that only add to the game in the sense of giving the player something new to complete, give something that increases to enjoyability and “replayability” of the entire game such as weather, new aspirations, new careers, etc.
Having every game be a replica of the last is straight up lazy and when EA try to do something new it doesn’t capture the essence of The Sims, in my opinion, and proves that literally all they can do is churn out the same over and over and over because it’s an easy profit.
I agree with this fully. My friend and I were just talking about this yesterday, as a matter of fact. It seems as though what they’re gearing the Sims 4 as this game with content that mimics mundane (and nearly useless) activities of real life. As you’ve seen with “Get to Work” and “Spa Day” instead of as you mentioned the actual playability of the game like seasons and pets and toddlers. It seems they are much more interested in giving us expansions like “Sports Stuff” (which is one we guessed will be up soon or next) just so they can churn out a halfbaked expansion with a few outfits, hairs, and a few skills and animations for $20.
We also expected them to EVENTUALLY come out with Seasons and toddlers. But they are most definitely going to slap $40 price tags on those babies because they know very well what we want as a community. They’re waiting until they can rake in as much money as possible before they drop actual content we’ve always wanted in the game. As for now, we get nothing useful.
I completely disagree. I love the way they handle EPs and how they all follow a pattern because it plays on my nostalgia. I’m getting them all in relatively the same order than I got them for TS1, TS2 and kinda TS3 even though I didn’t play it. It’s exciting for me to see the stuff I used to do years ago and see it rehashed and updated and new stuff added.
Also, why wouldn’t they put a $40 price tag on an expansion pack? I don’t know how much expansions normally cost in dollars so I don’t know if that’s higher than normal but I highly doubt they’ll make Pets/Seasons more expensive than any other expansion. They haven’t done that before, as far as I’m aware. Pets for TS1 was 3 discs and it was still the same price-wise as all the other expansions. I think in TS2 it was 2 discs as well.
I dunno, maybe I’m alone in this but I’m still excited for things they announce, especially things we’ve had in previous iterations. Even things I’m not interested in, like heroes and villians, I wouldn’t be excited about but I’d still be excited and happy for the people that are interested in it. It would be a bummer to me because it’s something I don’t want but other people do and that’s cool.
The stuff that’s come out so far has been useful to me, personally. I think Outdoor Retreat was fantastic, Spa Day is brilliant and I love all the build/buy additions. GTW was slightly disappointing for me because I’m not huge on active careers and I felt like some things were missing from retail but I’m still happy with it overall. I mean, I sue photography all the time gotta get those selfies.
I am disappointed thought that they haven’t given us any new aspirations/traits since January, after 2 stuff packs, a game pack and an expansion. I’m hopeful that they’ve taken our complaints about that on board though. We’ll see what happens next week at Gamescom.
It feels so good and exciting to get it but then not long after you’re just itching for more and it’s always on your mind.
me too!! I have to admit though, if superstar is next, I will be a little miffed. I really want pets, university, or something toddler related.
I think the majority of us do but I won’t be mad if it’s Superstar because most likely it’ll incorporate Nightlife into it as well. So we’ll get restaurants and more dating options, I hope. Cars too. Maybe some vamps??
I do reaaaaally want Pets, Seasons and Uni, they’re my top priorities but I’m not gonna be disappointed if they don’t come out in the next year because typically we have to wait longer for them anyway. Also, I don’t mind waiting a bit longer if it means they’ll be done right. I really don’t want Pets to be half-assed and rushed.
I’ll of course buy it like always, but we already have bars in the base game. I prefer EP’s that affect in home play because I rarely travel outside of the home. I didn’t even do it in ts3. I don’t like too, so it wouldn’t really benefit me. I know that pets is unlikely next, because the average wait time is 2 years, but with how much people are bitching about toddlers, they’d be stupid not to do that soon. It’s already been almost a year. Plenty of time for EA to get them right.
I don’t think we’ll ever get cars. I’m pretty sure one of the gurus said something along those lines. I wouldn’t mind getting vampires though. I never really played with them in ts3 but I might this time around.
I’m in the same boat in that most of my sims are pretty much hermits – they go to work and then come home and just do stuff at home. I don’t send them out anywhere all that often, which I’m trying to change but I just feel like part of the problem is that there isn’t anything for them to do. They can go out and drink and have a dance but that’s really it? We have Spa Day now which is nice but it’s not really a date-y kinda thing. So a Nightlife/Hot Date expansion would be great for me, personally.
Really, no cars? That surprises me. I don’t really understand why because we had cars in TS2 where it was even more limited than TS4. We even had a helicopter lol. I barely played with vamps in TS2 as well so I’d love to see how they do them in TS4.

I play since 2006 and my first sims game i play was sims 2 :3
I play since 2001 and my first sims game was The Sims 1! 🙂
Since â07, â08? Around there 😛 and my first game was The Sims 2 Pets, for my b-day (We soon realized we had to get the base game xD)
2000 or 2001 with a pirated copy of The Sims 1. But not long after I begged my dad to buy me a real copy because I wanted to download stuff from the exchange haha.
Nah m8, I’m not accusing Lexi of being a drama queen. To be honest with you, I just started following her after this drama hit my dash (I thought I was following before but apparently I wasn’t? Or Tumblr unfollowed her without asking me, thx bitch). If she’s been involved in drama before this then I haven’t seen any of it.
Also, chill out nonny. Obviously you’re Lexi’s friend and you want to stick up for her – that’s fine but don’t be so defensive of someone you know barely anything about and made a comment in jest.
I might as well say this now, I’m not on anyone’s side in any kind of Simblr drama. I think it’s all fucking ridiculous and childish and all I do is laugh at it. I’ve been around the sims community long before tumblr, I’ve seen enough drama that all I can do is laugh because if it was taken seriously I’d have a heart attack.
Maybe you just missed it. I go through my whole dash every morning so I don’t really miss anything. When I logged on for the day it was within the first few posts and I’m getting deeper and it’s just getting more hilarious.
Hahaha, anon I’m not agreeing with you but I’m not disagreeing either
